Having drawn since the age of four, author-artist Linda M. Brandt landed her first professional job illustrating political cartoons at the age of nineteen. Her work has been displayed in prestigious venues from Paris to London and New York to Laguna Beach. Many of her paintings are held in private collections around the world including the home of the late President Ronald Regan and past Ohio governor George Voinovich. Linda is the only known adult survivor of a particular rare and serious brain tumor. Following surgery to remove the tumor she contracted spinal meningitis and spent two months in hospital critical care. It was during this time, while inside of a MRI chamber, that Linda had a near death experience of which she writes in her soon-to-be released book, "Throw Jonah from the Boat...My Journey in the Belly of the Whale." With God's help and with the prayers and love of her family and friends, Linda spent the next three years learning to walk again, and at last learning to paint again. Collectors of her paintings believe her work is even more inspirational and dramatic than before as she emphasizes triumph over tragedy through her art.
A body of work titled, "7 Weeks" was recently released at a hospice facility. Seven large canvasses depicting the seven weeks she was in critical care took over four years to complete. The work is dramatic and compelling and takes the viewer through the stages of crises, survival, and healing.
Linda M. Brandt is Executive Director of the Henry Foundation, board member of the St. Augustine School of Performing Arts, Board Member/CoFounder of ArtBreakers (a 501C3) and member of the Ancient City Poet Society. She and her husband live on Anastasia Island in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.
